Welcome to #woodchat.

What is #woodchat?

Simply put, #woodchat is a weekly discussion that happens every Wednesday night at 9P.M. Eastern, live on Twitter. Every week we discuss different topics about modern woodworking and the woodworking entrepreneur.

What is the discussion about?

Every week, we cover a different topic that concerns the modern woodworker and the business of running a small shop. One week might be all about furniture design trends, while another week might have to do with selling your work online.

So, how does it work?

Each week, we’ll present a series of questions to begin the discussion. You can follow along and provide your insight, experiences, and answers to those questions. You can participate in and follow the discussion by using the hashtag, #woodchat. This makes it much easier to track, because you can watch only the Tweets that have the #woodchat hashtags in them.

Are there any rules?

We prefer to keep #woodchat loose and friendly, like any discussion involving creative geniuses. But, there are a few guidelines to keep in mind so the chat flows easily and everyone gets the most out of it they can.

1. Please stay on topic.

2. Feel free to link to your blogposts and use the #woodchat hashtag, but only if the blog post is relevant to the topic discussed.

3. Try to keep the RT’s down to a minimum durning the chat. If you find content worthy of sharing with your followers, then remove the hashtag, and encourage them to come join us. Otherwise, RT’s with the same hashtag just place it in front of the #woodchat participants over and over again.

How do I follow along?

Well, if you’re already on Twitter, then you’re one step away. If you’re not on Twitter, go sign up for an account right now. To make it really easy to follow, you can create a new search column in either TweetDeck, Seesmic, or your favorite desktop tool for Twitter. Then, as new Tweets with the #woodchat hashtag come up, you’ll see every one of them.

If you don’t use a desktop client and would like to follow online, the easiest place to do that is TweetChat.

Who’s this “we” you keep speaking of?

Alison Heath is the genius behind Workbench Marketing. After a successful career as marketing director for a high end furniture manufacturer, Alison now combines her love of fine furniture with her passion for great marketing and small business success. Follow Alison on Twitter.

Adam King is a veteran woodworker trained in traditional methods of fine furniture design and construction. For the last five years, he’s operated Adam King Studio and is very active in moving this age old art into the 21st century online platform.  Follow Adam on Twitter.

Also, in the coming weeks, be looking for special guest moderators who will answer your questions and bring valuable experience from their woodworking careers.

Thanks for stopping by and we’ll see you there, every Wednesday night at 9PM Eastern. Log on, sit back, and enjoy the ride!

yup, concur, a good topic for next chat would be using sales venues as marketing tactic, regardless of actual sales. Balance costs to potential.
cheers.
